Located on Arthur Kill Road in Staten Island, the Kreischer Mansion is mor than just a relic of New York’s industrial past. It is a house with a history of tragedy, mystery and ghosts. An ornate Queen Anne with a chilling backstory. The Kreischer Mansion has earned its place as one of America’s most haunted homesteads.

In 1885, German immigrant Balthasar Kreischer a local brick magnet had built two identical mansions for Edward and Charles his two sons.

These homes were opulent and showstoppers showcasing the family’s wealth. One of the mansions burned down in 1894 and what we see today is the surviving Kreischer Mansion.

In the same year that one of the homes burned down, Edward Kreischer died by suicide inside the house we see today. This devastated the family leaving a lingering black cloud of sorrow over the estate. In 2005 the Kreischer Mansion was headlining the news after a heinous murder occurred in the property.

Visitors and paranormal investigators have reported some unsettling events within the walls of the mansion.

People claim to see apparitions believed to be Edward Kreischer who took his life in 1894 as well as other family members. Disembodied voices and whispers have been reported through the empty halls of the estate. You can hear doors slamming and shadows moving when no one else is present in the home.

Claims of an atmosphere of heaviness and anguish can be felt throughout the estate, and with the tragic events that took place here over time it is no wonder that the sorrow of its past residents lingers.

The Kreischer Mansion is a New York City Landmark and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. She is a beauty on the outside and full of darkness and sadness on the inside. Ghost hunters, historians and thrill-seekers continue to get glimpse of the property.
