Submit a Story

Have a dark history or haunted location story that deserves to be told? We want to hear it.

We Are Always Looking For

At Haunted Homestead Society, our best stories come from people who know their local history people who grew up hearing about the abandoned asylum on the edge of town, who know the real story behind the cemetery no one talks about, or who have spent years researching a dark chapter of local history that mainstream media has ignored.

We are actively looking for submissions about:

Dark & Forgotten History Events, cover-ups, disasters, and crimes that happened in your community and have been largely forgotten or suppressed. Local scandals, industrial disasters, government wrongdoing, and historic injustices.

Haunted Locations: Specific haunted locations with documented historical context. We’re not just interested in “people say it’s haunted” we want the history behind the haunting. What happened there? When? Who was involved?

Lost & Abandoned Places: Ghost towns, abandoned institutions, flooded towns, demolished landmarks. The places that used to exist and the stories of why they disappeared.

True Crime & Cold Cases: Unresolved crimes, forgotten victims, cold cases tied to specific locations. Stories where the location itself is part of the history.
Personal Investigations: Have you investigated a haunted location and documented your findings? Share your experience what you found, what you felt, what the history told you.

Submission Guidelines

To give your story the best chance of being featured, please include:

  • Location details: specific town, state, and address if known
  • Historical context: what happened there and when, with as much documented detail as possible
  • Sources: any books, newspaper articles, historical records, or other sources you used
  • Your connection: how did you come across this story? Local knowledge, personal investigation, research?
  • Photos: if you have photos of the location, please include them (only photos you took yourself or that are in the public domain)

Minimum submission length: 300 words. Maximum submission length: No maximum the more detail, the better

What Happens After You Submit

  1. We review every submission personally: usually within 7-10 days
  2. If we decide to publish your story: we will contact you for permission and to discuss any additional research needed
  3. You will be credited: by name (or anonymously if you prefer) in the published post
  4. We may edit submissions: for clarity, accuracy, and style — we will always share the edited version with you before publishing

We receive many submissions and, unfortunately, cannot publish everything we receive. If we don’t publish your story, it doesn’t mean it isn’t a good story it may simply not fit our current editorial calendar.

    A Note on Accuracy

Haunted Homestead Society is committed to publishing historically accurate content. We research every story we publish and will not knowingly publish false information. If you submit a story, please be honest about what is a documented fact versus a local legend we appreciate the distinction and will honor it in how we present the material.

The best dark history is always the true kind.
